Spalding House Family Day

Every third Sunday of the month from 11am to 4pm (activities end at 3pm).

In conjunction with Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday, the museum also holds a free Family Day at its location in Makiki Heights, with entertainment and an art activity. A free shuttle bus runs between the Honolulu Museum of Art and Spalding House, so you can enjoy both events in one day.

Limited parking is available. Street parking is not permitted.

January 15:

• Continue the Bollywood celebrations by creating bell totas using beads, bells, and colorful paper birds.

• Join storyteller Nancy Kulp to learn a little about India and to hear a retelling of the Rudyard Kipling tale "How the Elephant Got Its Trunk" with a bit of "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," too. Get in the Bollywood spirit by learning some mudras (hand gestures) and move to movie dance music!

• Drawing contest: Kids under 17 are encouraged to enter! The museum gives contestants drawing supplies and an upcoming theme. The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.

Looking ahead:

February 19: Make Hawaiian arts and crafts out of natural materials found on the grounds of Spalding House, as you look out on the best view in town.
